Surveillance Facilitators

Training drug retailers to diagnose and manage multiple infections is proposed as one way to improve private-sector engagement. Facilitators are factors that promote or enable routine malaria surveillance in community pharmacies and over-the-counter medicine sellers. Integrated community case management does not by itself guarantee commitment to data reporting. Partnerships with assessment, training, subsidised tools and medicines, and supportive supervision are proposed as mechanisms to reinforce reporting engagement. Policy-relevant integration points include simplified reporting workflows, supportive supervision, feedback mechanisms, clearer regulations, and incentive structures.
