In a German study of Hashimoto's patients, selenium supplementation reduced thyroid peroxidase antibodies to about 63% of original levels on average. Among participants with very high baseline antibodies, selenium was associated with about a 40% antibody reduction while placebo was associated with an increase. Nine selenium-treated patients in the German study had complete antibody normalization. The placebo group in the German study had essentially no meaningful antibody change.
