The trial’s primary outcome is tooth-loss incidence due to periodontitis over 24 months. Tooth-loss incidence is defined as the proportion of participants losing at least one natural tooth due to periodontitis during follow-up. Secondary outcomes include the annualised mean number of teeth lost due to periodontitis per participant. Preliminary findings estimate 30% tooth-loss incidence over 2 years among comparable patients receiving conventional oral hygiene instruction only. The primary objective is to test whether NSPT plus SPC reduces tooth loss due to periodontitis compared with routine oral hygiene instruction.
