Topography

Conditioning on topography helps recover physically meaningful spatial structure from coarse climate forcing in mountainous terrain. High-resolution topography conditions the generation of fine-scale snowfall fields. Uncertainty was higher in extreme topography and high precipitation areas and lower in flatter regions. The generated fields express plausible ambiguity in distributing coarse precipitation across ridges, slopes, rain shadows, and high-relief maxima.
