The movement produces a strong abdominal contraction, particularly in the front of the core. Keeping the abdominal muscles engaged throughout both the backward slide and the return movement is the primary requirement of the exercise. The exercise requires maintaining plank stability while moving the body backward and forward. The sliding movement is initiated from the plank position by sliding the body backward as far as possible while maintaining control, then returning to the starting position. The Towel Plank Ab Slide adds a sliding movement to a standard plank in order to strongly challenge the abdominal muscles.
