Toxic Work Environment

A work situation becomes toxic when it prevents a person from performing as they want to perform. Toxic work dynamics involve both external behavior and internal response. Serious harm or safety concerns may require escalation to HR, legal counsel, or police depending on severity. Curiosity about difficult colleagues is recommended first, but it should not excuse sabotage or harmful behavior. Documentation is important when someone appears to sabotage growth, threaten success, or behave abusively. A direct and authentic exchange is usually the first step if it feels safe enough.
