The evening peak in toxicological emergencies aligns with evidence that alcohol misuse-related emergency visits in younger populations peak during evening and night hours. Lowered serotonergic activity and increased adrenergic activity in the afternoon may contribute to mood changes that underlie the evening toxicological emergency peak. Suicide attempts by self-poisoning may be most likely in the early evening. Toxicological emergencies, including alcohol toxicity and drug overdose, peaked between 18:00 and 21:00, unlike most other emergency categories.
