Active TEAS begins 30 minutes before surgery and continues until the end of the procedure. The stimulator uses an alternating 2/100 Hz disperse-dense waveform at an individualized tolerated current intensity of 10 to 15 mA. Active TEAS is delivered at PC6, BL57, SP6 and DU14 acupoints. Licensed acupuncturists with at least five years of clinical experience administer TEAS after standardized training. The trial evaluates perioperative TEAS as a non-invasive opioid-sparing strategy to improve analgesia and facilitate early mobilisation after UBE discectomy.
