Transform Boundaries

Transform boundaries occur when plates move laterally past one another. San Francisco and Los Angeles sit on different plates that are moving so the cities gradually get closer together. Transform plate motion is extremely slow on a human timescale but continues over time. The San Andreas Fault is a transform fault.
