Travel physical therapy assignments involve tradeoffs among location desirability, pay level, and quality of clinical conditions. Small-town hospital-based outpatient clinics offer better conditions for patient-focused travel therapists than high-volume private practices. Outpatient settings are preferred over acute care partly because patients who do not want treatment simply do not attend. Private outpatient clinic assignments requiring simultaneous treatment of multiple patients are generally less desirable. Interview warning signs about productivity and scheduling expectations should be heeded before accepting an assignment.
