Combining insulin with oral antidiabetic drugs increases care demands through more complex routines, injections, medication timing, fear of hypoglycaemia, glycaemic variability and possible adverse effects. Combined oral antidiabetic drug and insulin therapy was the only statistically significant predictor after adjustment. Adults on combined oral antidiabetic drugs and insulin had 7.26 times higher adjusted odds of diabetes distress than those on oral antidiabetic drugs only. Treatment complexity appeared to be the dominant predictor of diabetes distress in this setting.
