Triclosan

Triclosan is characterized as an antibiotic-like substance that kills beneficial bacteria in the mouth. Triclosan is considered not merely an oral health concern but a broader systemic microbiome concern. Using triclosan-containing toothpaste twice daily may be comparable to taking an antibiotic twice a day indefinitely. Triclosan exposure through the hands has been shown to reduce gut bacteria. Small amounts of triclosan swallowed from toothpaste may decrease or harm gut bacteria.
