The drill stretches the trunk, with particular emphasis on the sides of the ribs. The activity provides a strong stretch for the entire back side of the body. The arm position helps open the right side of the rib cage. Reaching the top arm upward during the exhale increases the stretch through the trunk and sides of the ribs. The raised position is held while breathing. The body is lowered back to the starting position slowly on the exhale. The trunk stretch is expected to intensify during inhalation. The trunk component is added by reaching the left hand down and the right arm upward.
