TFBM simulations reproduced the observed decline in reuse with phylogenetic distance. TFBM extends FBM by adding a birth-and-death process for fragile regions. TFBM predicts high breakpoint reuse within a lineage or between nearby branches but reduced reuse between distant branches. TFBM simulations assume only a subset of potentially breakable sites are fragile at any time. In TFBM simulations, fragile regions die and solid regions become fragile after every rearrangement while the number of fragile regions remains constant.
