A manual audit at site 4 found that the percentage of eligible patients prescribed a statin rose by 20% between the year without UCLP-PRIMROSE and the year with it. The pathway was developed with people with lived experience and incorporates peer delivery, a feature found in only 6% of interventions reviewed in the third Lancet Psychiatry physical health commission. Implementation of UCLP-PRIMROSE was moderately successful, but full pathway delivery was not achieved consistently and the intervention did not become standard practice within the study timeframe. The pathway has since been recommended in national best practice guidance. Non-engagement outreach including home visits was implemented in only 6 of 24 practices, making it one of the least consistently delivered pathway elements. UCLP-PRIMROSE was designed to be delivered across primary and secondary care with voluntary sector involvement. UCLP-PRIMROSE is an integrated, evidence-based care pathway that combines two prior innovations — PRIMROSE-A and the UCLPartners Proactive Care Frameworks — to reduce CVD risk and mental health relapse in people with SMI.
