The mapping exercise follows a seven-step model for defining, collecting, analysing, communicating, and refining service information. Service information will be entered into a relational service mapping database designed to support integrity, accuracy, reduced redundancy, and analysis. The first mapping step is to establish consistent definitions for relevant urgent and emergency care services across the four domains. Direct enquiry will supplement directory data across UK care systems and ambulance trusts. The protocol aims to create a baseline map of urgent and emergency care service provision, workforce composition, workforce experiences, and workforce datasets across the UK.
