No prior population-based study had specifically quantified unemployment risk in diagnosed adult GHD. Prior research by Stochholm et al. reported markedly higher rates of early retirement in both men and women with adult GHD at relatively young ages, broadly consistent with this study's unemployment findings. The employment impact of GHD manifests as longer-term job loss rather than episodic sickness absence. Adults with GHD face a 2.06-fold increased risk of unemployment, but this was not accompanied by increased fit-note-recorded time off work.
