Planting mature trees in a neighborhood was associated with a 133% reduction in residents' CRP levels. Trees reflect high levels of infrared light, which is proposed as contributing to their cardiovascular protective effects. Both evergreen and deciduous tree species were used in the planting intervention. Neighborhood tree density was the independent variable under investigation for its effect on cardiovascular health.
