Urinary Calcium

For individuals with the genetic mutation causing excess urinary calcium, dietary changes alone may not normalize urinary calcium levels. Elevated urinary calcium is not always diet-driven. A significant proportion of recurrent kidney stone formers carry a genetic mutation that causes excess calcium to be excreted into the urine rather than retained or deposited in bone. The genetic predisposition causing excess urinary calcium is linked to a tendency toward osteoporosis.
