The study examined sex differences in moderate-to-severe valvular heart disease among adults in China using a prospective multicentre hospital-based cohort. The findings apply primarily to hospital-based specialty care rather than the general population or untreated community cases. The cohort included 13,917 adults enrolled from 46 tertiary hospitals and regional cardiovascular referral centres in China between April and June 2018. Women made up 45.24% of the cohort, and the median patient age was 62 years.
