Vasoconstriction

Vasoconstriction occurs when blood vessels tighten. Nicotine narrows blood vessels and reduces blood flow to the skin. Vasoconstriction reduces blood movement into the hands, fingers, feet, and toes. Vasodilation allows more warm blood to reach the hands and feet by widening blood vessels. Robust circulation supports nutrient and oxygen delivery to skin cells. Persistent vasoconstriction reduces warm blood reaching small vessels and capillaries, making extremities cold. Reduced circulation is counterproductive for skin appearance and health.
