WAVE is a prospective multicentre randomised controlled non-inferiority trial comparing thermal ablation with laparoscopic adrenalectomy. The trial tests non-inferiority of thermal ablation first for biochemical cure and then for clinical cure using PASO criteria. The trial uses an open-label PROBE design with blinded endpoint determination. Recruitment began in September 2022 and the expected overall study completion is mid-2027. The trial is coordinated by Queen Mary University of London and includes six NHS centres.
