The absence of a dose-response pattern weakened a causal interpretation of preschool exposure effects. Parents reporting that they did not remember preschool hours was associated with increased odds of mental health outcomes, but this was not interpreted as causal evidence about preschool hours. Parents may adjust preschool hours in response to children’s socioemotional reactions and self-regulatory capacity. Average weekly preschool hours at ages 1-2, 2-3, and 3-6 years were not associated with the measured adolescent mental health outcomes.
