Paid and voluntary work could provide purpose, structure, identity, income, social interaction, and distraction from pain. Working from home generally helped participants use movement, rest, and pain relief strategies, but it could blur work-home boundaries. Trusted workplace friendships could reduce isolation and provide support beyond work. The Work is framed as meditation rather than intellectual debate.
