Chronic illness affects a substantial minority of older adolescents and young adults, but guidance for this age group remains limited. Youth is presented as a critical factor shaping diagnosis, self-understanding, social interaction, and healthcare engagement. Young adults experienced chronic illness as a layered set of barriers to understanding illness, articulating needs, and receiving support. The study investigates how Australians aged 19 to 29 experience chronic physical illness in the context of youth.
